A restorative justice dialog is a voluntary discussion, held in the presence of a mediator, between a victim of a crime, or the victim's family members, and the offender. The purpose of the dialog is to allow the victim to obtain answers to any questions that they may have of the offender regarding the crime. The dialog also allows the offender to answer the victim's questions and to apologize to the victim, thereby taking the ultimate responsibility for his or her actions. This dialog often contributes to the victim's healing process, and to the offender's rehabilitation.
